“Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thy self in any wise to do evil.”

Psalm 37:8

There is a common saying that says ‘life is not fair’. Indeed it is not and any theory that insists otherwise is deceptive. Our wrath tends to be vindictive and punitive; it takes a hold of us and tears us apart from the inside out. It can ruin different things in our lives; it can ruin our relationships with our family and friends. It can even ruin our relationship with God, as well. It is an ugly action that needs to stay out of our lives.

Fretting is a burning anger. It is wrong. It is an act of anger that can lead to evil. Fretting is a very dangerous act that needs to be left out of our walk with God period. In order to do this, we need to be patient.

God’s wrath on the other hand is untainted by self-interest and tempered by mercy. His wrath can even be His relentless love that brings our antagonists to repentance and faith. We must not then avenge ourselves, “for it is written, vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord…..do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:19, 21).

This must begin in the heart, the wellsprings from which the issues of our lives flow. May we cease from anger, forsake wrath, and wait patiently for the Lord.
