27th February 2021 – Finding Rest

Jesus makes a plea to those who are burdened by the law. To those who in their own strength are trying to please God. He makes a plea to those who have been weighed down with the laws and customs of the Pharisees and Sadducees, who have been told that if they are not perfect all will suffer.

Yet at the same time Christ is speaking to us. We who say we understand God’s grace and yet often wonder if He loves us, we who constantly in our wrong doing feel as if were no good. We who fall so short each day we have to ask God how he could possibly love us. Jesus says to God’s people then and today come to me.

Jesus is calling you if you are weary and burdened because your heart is in a place that is ready to listen. Notice Christ did not say come to me all who are confident in themselves and free of sin. He wants the person who has come to the end of themselves and this may be Christians or non-Christians alike.

Human effort falls far short of the standard God requires. The cross is the place of exchange where what I am is placed on Him and what He is, is given to me. My bad deeds are removed and placed on Him. I rest on His perfect deeds credited to my account.

Are you burdened, are you heavy laden. Have you been trying in your own effort to please a God that seems un-please-able? Jesus is promising you rest. Instead of working to find rest, you are to now work out of His rest. Because you now know, based on your simple faith in Christ, you are totally loved, completely forgiven, and absolutely accepted by Almighty God as if you were Jesus. Jesus has given you rest.
