“A faithful witness does not lie, but a false witness will utter lies.”

Proverbs 14:5

Truth is beautiful, as well as safe and mighty. A story of a twelve year old boy, who stood in a witness box with only truth as his weapon illustrates how he conquered a ‘smart and shrewd’ lawyer who was fighting for a bad cause. “Truth is the highest thing that man may keep,” and the noblest child or man is he that keeps the truth ever between his lips. Walter was the important witness in a lawsuit. One of the lawyers, after cross-questioning him severely, said, “Your father has been talking to you and telling you how to testify, hasn’t he? Yes,” said the boy. “Now,” said the lawyer, “just tell us how your father told you to testify.” “Well,” said the boy modestly, “father told me that the lawyers would try and tangle me in my testimony; but if I would just be careful and tell the truth, I could tell the same thing every time.” The lawyer didn’t try to tangle that boy any more.

Faithful men (or women) are rare. David said in Psalm 12:1 “Help, LORD; for the godly man ceaseth; for the faithful fail from among the children of men”. Solomon asked in Proverbs 20:6, “Most men will proclaim everyone his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?”

It is no different today; in fact, it may be worse, even among so-called Christians. For the character of carnal Christianity, which makes for perilous times, includes trucebreakers, false accusers, and traitors, among other sins (2 Timothy 3:1-5).

The world watches Christians, so you must be impeccably honest at all times to silence their accusations. Paul commanded us to even avoid the appearance of evil (1 Thess. 5:22). Honesty is the only policy, is your word always as pure as gold?

God hates lying. Of seven things God hates, two of them are lying. There will be no liars in heaven, for they will all be in the lake of fire (Revelation 21:8,27; 22:15). He is a God of truth, and He despises false witnesses (Exodus 20:16).

Friend, do you have perfect integrity? Do you always tell the truth? Can all men totally trust your every word? You must hate exaggeration. When asked about your activities, you must be open and complete. When asked about others, you must honestly represent them. When truth will hurt, you tell it anyway! Are you the faithful man so hard to find?

Jesus is the Faithful and True Witness, He is called Faithful and True. His true disciples will be as perfectly honest.
