13th April 2021 – Clean Up Your Closet

When we move homes, we tend to clean up our closets and get rid of junks we have piled up without knowing. Moving is not fun but there is one benefit to it, it makes us take inventory of all the things we have accumulated over the years. For some of us that is no problem but for some it is a big problem. Some of us are pack rats and we find it hard to throw anything away. Maybe it has sentimental value or maybe we think we might be able to use it in the future.

On our Christian journey, gradually moving to a new home, one day in heaven and we will be holy and sinless. We are to be packing and getting ready for this move throughout our lives, taking inventory of what we should keep and what we should throw away. We should continually be growing into maturity, into becoming more like what we will be when we are in heaven. We should be moving toward the righteous life that God desires.

We need to get rid of the things we have accumulated over the years, the things that will prevent you from leaving a Christian life and making heaven, things that hang around in the closets.

Eph 4:22 says with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires and Heb 12:1 says “therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles us”.

How do we clean up? By humbly accepting the word planted in us, realizing that we need God’s word and it is not just speaking to others but to us. Only God’s word can make us more righteous and saves us.
