“Behold I send an Angel before thee, to keep thee in the way, and to bring thee into the place which I have prepared.”
Exodus 23:20
In our text today, we see God telling the Israelites: He will go before them in the land, and prepare the way before them. For us here today, we need to know that God will go before us like He went before the Israelites and He will prepare the way ahead of us.
The people of Israel have been taken out of captivity and brought out into the desert. There God established relationship with them and has established this relationship through the giving of the Ten Commandments. Today, God is still giving us that assurance because He has sent His Holy Spirit to us as a comforter and guide to the place He has prepared for us.
God goes before us and situations that are impossible, situations where we are incapable of securing a good outcome and so we have to literally step back and let God go before us. This kind of thing happens all the time in our lives.
When we see that God goes before us that does not mean that everything is ready and waiting for us to walk in and sit down. No, God goes before us and creates a situation where we can succeed and then there is a lot of work ahead of us.
One thing we will note as we move farther along with the Israelites in their journey through the desert is that especially Moses prays as the people move forward. This is no coincidence. We should follow this model in our lives, for without us praying about a situation that is before us, how can we expect to follow God’s direction?
As you move in the journey of life, the Lord will direct and guide you in Jesus name and may we fully surrender to His leading and direction in Jesus name.
