Monday, June 28th – Do More.

The “sluggard” is one who is habitually inactive or lazy. Poverty is the portion of the person who can work but is not willing to do so. There are those in our society who think the world owes them a living. We should be diligent in our Christian lives because it is the soul of the diligent that is made fat. The word “fat” here in this text speaks of prosperity and advancement.

One expert says, “Success does not come from being a hundred percent better than your com- petition, but from being one percent better in a hundred different ways.” To succeed, you will have to do more than you may want, more than your competition, and more than you think you are capable of.

The poet William Arthur Ward wrote “I will do more than belong, I will participate; I will do more than care I will help; I will do more than believe, I will practice; I will do more than be fair, I will be kind; I will do more than forgive, I will forget; I will do more than dream, I will work; I will do more than teach, I will inspire; I will do more than learn, I will enrich; I will do more than give, I will serve; I will do more than live, I will grow; I will do more than suffer, I will triumph.” (The Word For Today).

You cannot do whatever is easiest and still reach your goal, you must do more and do whatever it takes to get your result and reward. A diligent person confidently waits for the reward that the self-indulgent person is too impatient to wait for.
