“For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.”

Hebrews 6:10

It is not enough that Christians work in the vineyard of the Lord but also what motivates us to do that work. Are you thinking, ‘I do so much and I just want a little appreciation in return.’ And no one is appreciating you and so you feel unappreciated and taken for granted. If so, understand that people may fail to thank you but your heavenly Father appreciates all that you do.

The Pharisees were motivated to do religious work so that they might be seen by men. In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus warned His hearers about doing good works in order to obtain the praise of men. “Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.” Matthew 6:1 NIV

God has put you exactly where He needs you, you are fulfilling His purpose every day; once you accept that you will find joy and meaning in what you are doing because God is the reason people are just beneficiaries. They may not notice what you do but God does and that is what matters.

Your work may go uncelebrated but it will not go unrewarded, God is not unjust. Your work and service done for the glory of the Lord will not be forgotten by Him but will be rewarded. May we work diligently and with dignity “for the night cometh when no man can work?”
