“No servant can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”
Luke 16:13
We find a stern warning from God’s word that was uttered from the lips of the Lord Jesus. He shows the principle that you must choose whether you are going to serve God or the demon of materialism or money.
How we handle money reveals much about our priorities, Jesus warned that we can become slaves to money. We may not think that money means more to us than God does. People are working harder and harder to make money. It is the number one goal in their life. But at what cost is my question. I know it takes money to buy those necessities of life. But when it comes between making money to live and a relationship with the Maker of life, the Lord seems to lose out regularly. In other words, the choice is loving money more than God.
Don’t think for one minute that God wants your money he wants your Heart. When you wake up in the morning who do you give your heart to? Your job worrying about that next pay raise; that next big deal or whether or not you are going to have a job when you get there. Your money if you have it how you are going to spend it; what that next purchase is going to be that will supposedly bring you fulfillment. How you are going to make more of it.
Who is your God? If your god is money then you are going to be sorely disappointed. Luke 9:25 says “for what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?”
We waste a lot of our lives on stupid pursuits, sometimes missing our greatest blessings, however, most of the time these blessing are right in front of us.
