“Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now and forever more, amen.”

2 Peter 3:18

A story was told about an American Jewish named Arthur Burns, chairman US Federal Reserve Board in the 1970s, who became part of a Bible study group held at the white house at that time. He prayed at one of the studies with surprise of everyone in the group that may the day come when all the Jews will come to know Jesus and he added to their amazement that let a day come when all Christians will come to know Jesus.

This is a profound prayer, even if we claim to be born again and the name of Jesus Christ, it may not be evident to others that we really know Him. Is it really a surprise when some people say to us “and you call yourself a Christian?” Do we truly behave like one, do we have a personal relationship with Him or is it a collective worship unto Him? Are we striving, praying and working to know Jesus more intimately each day?

Did you know that it is God’s will that every Christian becomes spiritually mature? It’s true! God wants us all to grow to spiritual maturity. Some people can look and sound spiritually mature they know how to talk the talk but question is do they know how to walk the walk? Some people look holy they seem to have heaven hovering around them but that may just be appearance and not reality. Appearances can be deceiving. You know the saying “you can’t judge a book by its cover.” Spiritual maturity is not a matter of what a person looks or sounds like on the outside it is a matter of what has taken place on the inside. God is in the process of transforming us into the image of His Son.

Apostle Peter said the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord will bring us multiplied grace and peace (2 Peter 1:2), knowing Jesus gives us all things that pertain to life and godliness and His knowledge will help us develop character traits that show the world that we are truly connected to Him; and so the remark will be ‘this is a Christian rather than and you call yourself a Christian’.

Can you and I honestly say ‘I know Jesus better today than yesterday, am I really growing in Him daily?’ The better you know Jesus in your heart, the more the world will see Jesus in your life.
