“Through Him then let us offer up a sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of lips which make confession to His name.”

Hebrews 13:15

There are numerous benefits of praise that are often overlooked by many in our busy world. Those who understand these benefits and appropriate them are enriched, empowered and enabled by the Spirit of God to experience higher levels of Christlike transformation, fruitfulness and blessings.

Praising God involves the recognition of who He is, the Almighty God; praising Him involves the recognition of what He has done, “O Lord, Thou art my God. I will exalt Thee, I will praise Thy name, for Thou hast done wonderful things” (Isaiah 25:1). Praising God involves the recognition of what He is doing and the recognition of what He will do, the Psalmist said in Psalm 145:9 “He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them.”

People who praise God for His power, sovereignty and omnipotence do not have to carry around excess burdens and frustrations. When we praise God during times of distress, disappointment or difficulty we are able to completely give all the weight of adverse circumstances to the Lord’s care.

Those who praise God are released from the burden of guilt when they experience the freedom of God’s forgiveness and cleansing from all our unrighteousness. When we praise God for who He is and what He has done we reduce the tendency to murmur and complain about our hurt feelings. When we praise God we will be more submissive, content and yielded to His will. Praise alleviates our anxiety as we allow our hearts and minds to remain in Christ Jesus.

Praise gives us greater intimacy with the God who is greater than any person, problem or circumstance we may face. Praise helps us be reminded of the unlimited resources we have in Christ that represent a vast reservoir of heavenly provisions; the Psalmist said “They who seek the Lord will not lack one good thing.”

We can praise God and experience less of a need to rely on ourselves, our resources and our people because we know His promise is true. Praising God helps us gain greater confidence in God’s ability to take us through any dark valley. Praising God recognizes that He is sovereign, loving and perfectly in control of all our circumstances.

Resolve to praise God continually because it is the fruit of our lips. “Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful”.
