“If you diligently heed the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His sight, give ear to His commandments and keep all His statutes, I will put none of the diseases on you which I have brought on the Egyptians. For I am the Lord who heals you.”
Exodus 15:26

The Lord often uses the processes of healing to accomplish His greater will in the forming of Godly character in our lives. Not only should we look to the Lord for our healing, but more im- portantly for the prevention of diseases. Ask the Lord for the submission to His will so that you are able to see how healing is used for His greater will in forming Godly patience, humility and submissiveness to His Spirit.

In the Bible, one of the names God chooses to be called by is ‘Jehovah Rapha’ which means ‘I am the Lord who heals.’ If God calls Himself the healer, then you have the right to believe what He says and expect that given an opportunity He will do what He said He would do, His credibil- ity depends on living up to His name.

The word Rapha is used some sixty times in the Old testament and means, “to restore, to heal, or to cure” physically, emotionally and spiritually. In 1 Kings 18:30, we get a picture of what Rapha means when we read that Elijah “repaired” (Rapha) the altar of Jehovah. In 2 Kings 2:21, God “heals” (Rapha) the water when Elisha throws salt in the spring. The word has the idea of restoring something to its original state.

God alone is our healer. Doctors, nurses, and researchers are all tools in the hands of God. They will only discover what God Himself already knows. If we want to be healed, we should free those that have hurt us. Resentment is a poison that destroys those around it, it separates us from the most important things and the solution to resentment is forgiveness. We forgive those that offend us, not because they deserve it but because it is the only way to heal.

The Cross of Christ is the source of healing. The Jehovah who heals in the Old Testament is the Jesus who heals in the New. Even if God does not heal you from sickness this side of heaven, He wants to use sickness to draw us to Himself, using us to display His grace and glory to the world.
